First Friday & First Saturday 

DEVOTIONS

The Church invites the faithful to enter more deeply into the mystery of God's love through the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

On First Friday, we honor the Sacred Heart of Jesus by participating in Holy Mass, receiving Holy Communion worthily, spending time in Eucharistic Adoration, and offering acts of reparation for sins committed against His loving Heart.

On First Saturday, we respond to the Blessed Virgin Mary's request at Fatima by making reparation to her Immaculate Heart through Confession.  Holy Communion, praying five decades of the Rosary, and meditating for fifteen minutes on its mysteries. May these beautiful devotions renew our faith, deepen our love for Christ and His Blessed Mother, and inspire us to live lives of holiness, prayer, and charity. As we entrust ourselves, our families, our nation, and the whole world to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, may we receive God's abundant mercy, lasting peace, and countless graces.

NINE FIRST FRIDAYS

DEVOTION

When Our Lord appeared to Saint Margaret Mary in 1673, He promised to grant the following favors to all those who practiced devotion to His Sacred Heart:

12 Promises of the Sacred Heart to St. Margaret Mary:

1)  I will give them all the graces necessary for their state of life.

2)  I will give peace in their families.

3)  I will console them in all their troubles.

4)  I will be their refuge in life and especially in death.

5)  I will abundantly bless all their undertakings.

6)  Sinners shall find in my Heart the source and infinite ocean of mercy.

7)  Tepid souls shall become fervent.

8)  Fervent souls shall rise speedily to great perfection.

9)  I will bless those places wherein the image of my Sacred Heart shall be exposed and venerated.

10) I will give to priests the power to touch the most hardened hearts.

11) Persons who propagate this devotion shall have their names eternally written in my Heart.

12) In the excess of the mercy of my heart, I promise you that my all powerful love will grant to all those who will receive Communion on the First Fridays, for nine consecutive months, the grace of final repentance: they will not die in my displeasure, nor without receiving the sacraments; and my Heart will be their secure refuge in that last hour.

A veritable treasure chest of spiritual gems! And what does He ask of us in return?

How to complete the Nine First Fridays Devotion:

On the first Friday of nine consecutive months:

1. Receive Holy Communion on each of the First Fridays. 

Note: If you have knowledge that you are not in a state of Sanctifying Grace (that is, you are knowledgeable of mortal sin(s) on your soul, and thus unable to receive Holy Communion) you will also need to go to Confession prior to receiving your Holy Communion on the First Friday.

2. The nine first Fridays must be consecutive;

3. They must be made in honor of and in reparation to His Sacred Heart for all the blasphemies, outrages, sacrileges, and indifferences committed against It. 

    5 FIRST SATURDAYS DEVOTION

In December of 1925, Our Lady appeared to Sister Lucia, giving her the following guaranty of salvation for those who complete the First Five Saturdays Devotion: “I promise to assist them at the hour of death with all the graces necessary for the salvation of their souls."

Why Five Saturdays?

The five first Saturdays correspond to the five kinds of offenses and blasphemies committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary:

1) Blasphemies against the Immaculate Conception.

2) Blasphemies against her virginity.

3) Blasphemies against her divine maternity, at the same time the refusal to accept her as the Mother of all men.

4) Instilling indifference, scorn and even hatred towards this Immaculate Mother in the hearts of children.

5) Direct insults against Her sacred images.

How to complete the Five First Saturdays Devotion:

On the first Saturday of five consecutive months:

1. Go to confession;

2. Receive Holy Communion;

3. Say five decades of the Rosary;

4. Keep Our Lady company for 15 minutes, meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary;

5. Have the intention of making reparation to Our Lady for the offenses listed above

On February 1926, the Child Jesus appeared to Lucia asking her if she promoted the devotion to our Blessed Mother. Lucia talked about the difficulties she encountered in order to fulfill this mission. Jesus responded that His grace is sufficient…Our Lord Himself says: "Have compassion for your Mother's Heart. It is surrounded with thorns that ungrateful men pierce at each moment, and there is no one who does acts of reparation to remove them."

I believe in God, the Father Almighty. Creator of Heaven and Earth, and in Jesus Christ His only Son Our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into Hell; the third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into Heaven, and seated at the right hand of God, the Father almighty; from there He shall come to judge the living and the dead. 

I believe in the Holy Sprit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting. Amen.

On the first bead: Our Father

The next three beads: Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee: Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of death. Amen.

Next bead: The Glory Be

Glory Be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Serran Prayer For Vocations

O God, Who wills not the death of a sinner, but rather that he be converted and live, grant we beseech You through the intercession of the Blessed Mary, ever Virgin, Saint Joseph, her spouse, Blessed Junipero Serra, and all the saints, an increase of laborers for your Church, fellow laborers with Christ to spend and consume themselves for souls, through the same Jesus Christ, Your Son, Who lives and reigns with You, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God forever and ever. Dear Lord,

We pray that the Blessed Mother wrap her mantle around your priests, and through her intercession. Strengthen them for their ministry. We pray that Mary will guide Your priests to follow her own words. Do what ever he tells you. May your priests have the heart of St. Joseph, Mary's most chaste spouse.

May the Blessed Mother's own pierced heart inspire to embrace all who suffer at the foot of the cross. May Your priests be holy. Filled with the fire of your love, seeking nothing but Your greater glory, and the salvation of souls. Amen.

Kinh Sấp Mình
Lạy Chúa, con sấp mình xuống trước mặt Chúa. Con tin thật Chúa ở khắp mọi nơi, thông biết mọi sự hằng xem thấy con, hằng nghe lời con cầu nguyện. Lạy Chúa, xin hãy mở miệng lưỡi con ra, thì con sẽ cao rao những lời ngợi khen Chúa. Lạy Chúa chúng con vì dấu Thánh giá, xin chữa chúng con cho khỏi mọi sự dữ. Amen.
Kinh Ăn Năn Tội
Lạy Chúa con, Chúa là Đấng trọn tốt trọn lành vô cùng. Chúa đã dựng nên con, và cho Con Chúa ra đời chịu nạn chịu chết vì con, mà con đã cả lòng phản nghịch lỗi nghĩa cùng Chúa, thì con lo buồn đau đớn, cùng chê ghét mọi tội con trên hết mọi sự; con dốc lòng chừa cải, và nhờ ơn Chúa thì con sẽ lánh xa dịp tội cùng làm việc đền tội cho xứng. Amen.

Kinh Hãy Nhớ

Lạy Thánh Nữ Đồng Trinh Maria là Mẹ rất nhân từ, xin hãy nhớ xưa nay chưa từng nghe có người nào chạy đến cùng Đức Mẹ xin bầu chữa cứu giúp mà Đức Mẹ từ bỏ chẳng nhậm lời. Nhân vì sự ấy, con hết lòng trông cậy than van chạy đến sấp mình xuống dưới chân Đức Mẹ là Nữ Đồng Trinh trên hết các kẻ đồng trinh, xin Đức Mẹ đoái đến con là kẻ tội lỗi. Lạy Mẹ là Mẹ Chúa Cứu thế, xin chớ bỏ lời con kêu xin, một dủ lòng thương và nhậm lời con cùng. Amen.

6-Những người đang đau khổ về phần hồn, cùng phần xác.

7-Những người không nhà, đang lang thang trên đường phố, đang vướng vào những nghiện ngập, những tệ nạn của xã hội.

Làm Dấu Thánh Giá

Lạy Đức Mẹ, xin Đức Mẹ lấy lòng thương xót mà cầu nguyện cho chúng con được nhờ công nghiệp Đức Chúa Giêsu cùng nhờ công nghiệp Đức Mẹ, cho được khỏi tội lỗi chúng con đã phạm, cùng những hình phạt chúng con đã đáng chịu. Lại xin Đức Mẹ phù hộ cho chúng con làm việc này nên, cho được những phép ân xá Hội Thánh ban cho kẻ làm việc kính những sự thương khó Đức Mẹ.

Ngắm thứ Nhất

Ông Thánh Simêon nói tiên tri cùng Đức Mẹ.

Khi ông Thánh Simêon ẵm kính Đức Chúa Giêsu thì nói cùng Đức Mẹ rằng: "Con Đức Mẹ ngày sau nên như bia bắn cùng như dao sắc thâu qua lòng Đức Mẹ." Đức Mẹ nghe lời làm vậy thì trọn đời những nhớ luôn, và lo buồn đau đớn như phải dao sắc thâu qua lòng vậy. Xin Đức Mẹ cầu cho chúng con được nhớ những sự thương khó Đức Chúa Giêsu như Đức Mẹ thuở xưa. Amen.

Ngắm thứ Hai 

Đức Mẹ đem Đức Chúa Giêsu trốn sang nước Ai Câp.

Khi Thánh Thiên Thần báo tin cho Đức Mẹ rằng: Vua Hêrôđê đi tìm Đức Chúa Giêsu mà giết, thì Đức Mẹ đem Con sang nước Ai Câp, mà Người thương Con còn non nớt mới sinh, và lo buồn đau đớn như phải dao sắc thâu qua lòng vậy. Xin Đức Mẹ cầu cho chúng con chớ làm sự gì trái nghịch cùng mất lòng Đức Chúa Giêsu nữa. Amen.

Đức Chúa Giêsu ở lại trong Đền thờ, mà Đức Mẹ tìm kiếm Người ba ngày.

Khi Đức Mẹ đem Con đi lễ đền thờ thành Giêrusalem, mà khi về lạc mất Con, thì Đức Mẹ những thức thâu đêm than thở khóc lóc, và lo buồn đau đớn như phải dao sắc thâu qua lòng vậy. Xin Đức Mẹ cầu cho chúng con chớ còn đi đàng tội lỗi, mà bỏ mất nghĩa cùng Đức Chúa Giêsu nữa. Amen.

Đức Mẹ gặp Đức Chúa Giêsu đang vác cây Thánh giá.

Khi Đức Mẹ theo Con khi đi chịu chết, thì thấy Con vác Thánh Giá lên núi Calvariô nhiều lần ngã xuống đất, mà quân dữ đạp dậy giục đi cho chóng, thì hai con mắt Đức Mẹ như hai suối nước chảy xuống, đau đớn trong lòng như dao sắc thâu qua lòng vậy. Xin Đức Mẹ cầu cho chúng con được vác Thánh giá theo Đức Chúa Giêsu, ấy là chớ theo ý mình, một theo ý Đức Chúa Giêsu luôn. Amen.

Đức Mẹ đứng kề Thánh giá Đức Chúa Giêsu là Con rất yêu dấu khi trút linh hồn.

Khi Đức Mẹ thấy Con treo trên cây Thánh giá phán ra bảy lời, như trối của trọng để cho Mẹ, đoạn thì gục đầu xuống từ giã Đức Mẹ mà qua đời, thì lòng Đức Mẹ đau đớn như dao sắc thâu qua lòng vậy. Xin Đức Mẹ cầu cho chúng con được nhớ bảy lời trọng ấy, như của châu báu Cha trối cho con, và giữ trong lòng chúng con cho đến trọn đời. Amen.

7 Lời Trọng của Chúa Giêsu:

1. Lạy Cha, xin tha cho chúng, vì chúng không biết việc chúng làm.
2. Hôm nay anh sẽ được ở với Ta trong thiên đàng.
3. Thưa Bà, đó là con Bà - Đó là Mẹ của con.
4. Lạy Thiên Chúa, lạy Thiên Chúa con, sao Người bỏ con?
5. Ta khát.
6. Mọi sự đã được hoàn tất,
7. Lạy Cha, Con phó linh hồn con trong tay Cha.

Ngắm thứ Sáu

Hai môn đệ hạ xác Đức Chúa Giêsu mà trao cho Đức Mẹ ẵm kính.

Khi ông thánh Giuse cùng ông thánh Nicô-đêmô tháo đanh hạ xác Đức Chúa Giêsu xuống mà phó ở tay Đức Mẹ. Khi ấy Đức Mẹ giơ hai tay lên toan đỡ lấy xác Con, đến khi đã được thì ẵm vào lòng, đoạn áp mặt xuống trên đầu Con, chẳng quản những gai nhọn ở đầu Con đâm vào mặt Mẹ, mà mặt Mẹ thì chan chứa những máu Con dính vào, mặt Con thì dầm dìa những nước mắt Mẹ chảy xuống. Ai suy cho được sự trong lòng Đức Mẹ bấy giờ, thương xót khóc lóc thảm thiết đau đớn khốn cực là thể nào! Đoạn lấy khăn trắng mà liệm xác Con, thì lòng Đức Mẹ đau đớn như dao sắc thâu qua lòng đứt ruột ra vậy. Xin Đức Mẹ cầu cho chúng con được ăn năn lo buồn ghét tội, vì đã làm cho Đức Chúa Giêsu chịu chết làm vậy. Amen.

Ngắm thứ Bảy

Môn đệ táng xác Đức Chúa Giêsu vào huyệt đá mới.

Khi tắm xác Đức Chúa Giêsu mà táng trong hang đá, đoạn lấy hòn đá lớn mà che ngoài cửa hang thì lòng Đức Mẹ đau đớn như đã chết mà chôn một mồ cùng con vậy, vì khi trước còn xem thấy xác Con mà còn đau đớn khốn cực dường ấy, song le bây giờ chẳng còn xem thấy xác Con nữa, thì biết đau đớn khốn cực là thế nào! Như dao sắc thâu qua lòng vậy. Xin Đức Mẹ cầu cho chúng con được ăn năn lo buồn mọi tội, vì làm cho mất nghĩa cùng Đức Chúa Giêsu, cùng xin in những sự thương khó Đức Chúa Giêsu vào lòng chúng con cho đến trọn đời. Amen.

Kết thúc 

Chúng con cám ơn Đức Chúa Giêsu, xưa đã chịu nạn chịu chết vì chúng con, thì đã hợp như lời ông thánh Simêon nói mà Đức Mẹ nhớ luôn. Vậy chúng con dốc lòng kính nhớ bảy sự đau đớn Đức Mẹ luôn luôn, và xin Đức Mẹ hằng cứu giúp chúng con cho khỏi phạm tội mất lòng Đức Chúa Giêsu cùng Đức Mẹ, nhất là khi mong qua đời được chịu các phép Bí Tích và khỏi chết tươi, cùng những sự khốn khó hiểm nghèo về phần xác, và được trông ơn Đức Mẹ hằng cứu giúp chúng con cho khỏi. Vậy chúng con chỉ một lòng cậy Rất Thánh Đức Mẹ là Quan Thầy, là Chúa Bầu, là Sao Mai dẫn đàng cho chúng con đang còn vượt biển thế gian này cho khỏi lạc, cho ngày sau được vào nước thiên đàng, chầu chực Đức Chúa Giêsu cùng Rất Thánh Đức Mẹ đời đời chẳng cùng Amen.

Đức Mẹ đã hứa với Thánh Nữ Brigita, sẽ ban 7 ơn cho những ai tôn kính và truyền bá lòng tôn sùng Đức Mẹ Sầu bi.

1. Mẹ sẽ ban bình an cho gia đình chúng.

2. Mẹ sẽ soi sáng cho chúng hiểu những mầu nhiệm thánh.

3. Mẹ sẽ an ủi chúng trong cơn đau khổ và đồng hành với chúng trong công việc chúng làm.

4. Mẹ sẽ ban những ơn như chúng xin, nếu những ơn ấy không trái thánh ý Chúa, hoặc ban ơn thánh hóa tâm hồn chúng.

5. Mẹ sẽ bảo vệ chúng trong trận chiến thiêng liêng với kẻ thù hỏa ngục. Mẹ sẽ gìn giữ chúng mọi lúc trong đời chúng.

6. Mẹ sẽ trợ giúp chúng cách hữu hình trong giờ "lâm tử". Chúng sẽ được thấy nhan thánh Mẹ.

7. Mẹ đã xin Con thánh Mẹ ơn này, là những ai truyền bá lòng tôn sùng những giọt lệ và đau thương của Mẹ, chúng sẽ được đưa thẳng từ đời này lên hưởng phúc muôn đời, vì tội lỗi chúng sẽ được tha thứ hết. Mẹ và Chúa Con sẽ là niềm vui và an ủi của chúng muôn đời.

Introductory Prayer
My God, I offer You this Rosary for Your glory, so I can honor your Holy Mother, the Blessed Virgin, so I can share and meditate upon her suffering. I humbly beg you to give me true repentance for all my sins. Give me wisdom and humility, so that I may receive all the indulgences contained in this prayer.
Act of Contrition
O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended You, and I detest all my sins because I dread the loss of Heaven and the pains of hell; but most of all because they offend You, my God, You Who are all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of your grace, to confess my sins, to do penance, and to amend my life. Amen.

THE FIRST SORROW-THE PROPHECY OF SIMEON.

When the time came for their purification according to the law of Moses, they brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord.
Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.
He took Jesus up in his arms and blessed God and said, "Lord, now let thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word;
for mine eyes have seen thy salvation which thou hast prepared in the presence of all peoples.
And his father and his mother marveled at what was said about him; and Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, "Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is spoken against,and a sword will pierce through your own soul also, that thoughts out of many hearts may be revealed."

THE SECOND SORROW: THE FLIGHT INTO EGYPT.

Behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Rise, take the child and his mother and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you, for Herod is about to search for the child to destroy him.” And he rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed to Egypt and remained there until the death of Herod.

THE THIRD SORROW: THE LOSS OF THE CHILD JESUS IN THE TEMPLE.

And when Jesus was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem as usual for the festival. When the days were completed, as they were returning, the boy Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem, but his parents did not know it. Thinking that he was in the caravan, they journeyed for a day and looked for him among their relatives and acquaintances, but not finding him, they returned to Jerusalem to look for him. After three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions, and all who heard him were astounded at his understanding and his answers. When his parents saw him, they were astonished, and his mother said to him, “Son, why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been looking for you with great anxiety.” And he said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?” But they did not understand what he said to them.

Then he went with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them. His mother treasured all these things in her heart.

THE FOURTH SORROW: MARY MEETS JESUS ON THE WAY TO CALVARY

With loud shouts, however, they persisted in calling for his crucifixion, and their voices prevailed. The verdict of Pilate was that their demand should be granted. So he released the man who had been imprisoned for rebellion and murder, for whom they asked, and he handed Jesus over to them to deal with as they wished. As they led him away they took hold of a certain Simon, a Cyrenian, who was coming in from the country; and after laying the cross on him, they made him carry it behind Jesus. A large crowd of people followed Jesus, including many women who mourned and lamented him.

THE FIFTH SORROW: JESUS DIES ON THE CROSS

Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary of Magdala. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son.” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.
After this, aware that everything was now finished, in order that the scripture might be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I thirst.” There was a vessel filled with common wine. So they put a sponge soaked in wine on a sprig of hyssop and put it up to his mouth. When Jesus had taken the wine, he said, “It is finished.” Then Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, "Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit!" And having said this he breathed his last.

THE SIXTH SORROW: MARY RECEIVES THE DEAD BODY OF JESUS IN HER ARMS

So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first and then of the other one who was crucified with Jesus. But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs, but one soldier thrust his lance into his side, and immediately blood and water flowed out.

Jesus is taken down from the cross and His body is placed in Mary's arms. The passion and death are over, but for His mother, grief continues. She holds His body in her arms. Then they took the body of Jesus and bound it with burial cloths along with the spices, according to the Jewish burial custom.

THE SEVENTH SORROW: THE BODY OF JESUS IS PLACED IN THE TOMB.
Now in the place where he had been crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had yet been buried. So they laid Jesus there because of the Jewish preparation day; for the tomb was close by. The most tragic day in history ends, Mary alone in sorrow, awaiting the Resurrection.

Queen of Martyrs, your heart suffered so much. I beg you, by the merits of the tears you shed in these terrible and sorrowful times, to obtain for me and all the sinners of the world the grace of complete sincerity and repentance. Amen.

PROMISES OF OUR LADY OF SORROWS:
These are the seven promises Our Lady made through St. Bridget of Sweden, to those who are devoted to meditating on her Seven Sorrows:
1. I will grant peace to their families.
2. They will be enlightened about the Divine Mysteries.
3. I will console them in their pains and I will accompany them in their work.
4. I will give them as much as they ask for as long as it does not oppose the adorable will of my Divine Son or the sanctification of their souls.
5. I will defend them in their spiritual battles with the infernal enemy and I will protect them at every instant of their lives.
6. I will visibly help them at the moment of their death. They will see the face of their Mother.
7. I have obtained this grace from my divine Son, that those who propagate this devotion to my tears and suffering, will be taken directly from this earthly life to eternal happiness since all their sins will be forgiven and my Son and I will be their eternal consolation and joy.
